Gnome-Napped!!

Ok - so here at the factory, sometimes you have to rob from Peter to pay Paul when you are short handed.  I feel that my department gets picked on the most ... maybe it's not true... in fact it probably isn't true but I have a right to my feelings. :)

So, on those days that I may be missing my sample hand or my labor coster, I have brought up my garden gnome to make me feel that I am not short handed (and it just makes you smile)...I would place him in the sample department cutting fabric or at a sewing machine.  He has sat a computer to make some markers (all of the sizes of each given pattern piece in a group are arranged into a marker, that is printed. The marker is then laid on top of the layers of fabric and cut...see pic below) but now he has been gnome-napped!

The gnome-napper left a ransom note on my key board while I was out of my office...sneaky.   The ransom - 1 dozen donuts...are these regular glazed donuts? Chocolate covered? with sprinkles?  So many choices, I may just up my ante and bring a dozen and half of Prasek's pig in the blankets...that should suffice. Right?

Only time will tell after I make the drop this week.  I will keep you informed.

P.S. if you haven't seen Gnome-o and Juliet - you should.

Whew! So Fall '11 sample season has finally wrapped up and I can think, breath, eat & sleep! :)  This was a extremely difficult season for all  involved but we are finally done and we are moving on to Spring 12.  Below are some pictures from the ENK Show in NY a couple of weeks ago  and a few snippets of my favorite models....

Frantic Friday!

No, this is not our pet lion we keep at the factory...this is Stewart, our pattern maker, posing with a tutu chair cover that we made for a show in New York.  We made a matching tutu table cover as well..turned out really cute!

Earnshaw's January Issue

Our Heartstruck group from Spring '11 is featured in Earnshaw's January issue in "The Look"  For those of you not familiar with Earnshaw's, here is a little information I pulled off of their "About Us" section on the web:

Earnshaw’s is the premier media resource serving the children’s market, including apparel, juvenile products and gifts. With more than 94 years of experience, the magazine is the established voice of the industry. More than 13,000 decision makers rely on Earnshaw’s print vehicle, online communications, fashion events and seminars to hone their retail strategies and merchandising techniques, stay informed on the latest trends, and keep their assortments fresh.
So this is an honor to be noticed in a catalog of this caliber for our industry.

Welcome

Hi! Welcome to our blog.  I decided during this past week of sample mayhem that I needed an outlet to our crazy business.  I thought it would be really neat to show everyone the "behind the scenes" look of all the work and creativity goes into designing a bi-annual fashion line.

New ICM was established by 2 retired school teachers after they developed and patented our famous "Double Seat Panty" while on a search for garments for their own clothing store.  Sixty years later, ICM is thriving in the world of  domestic sleepwear.  What we do & who we work with, still leaves me amazed almost everyday.

New ICM is headquarted in El Campo, Texas - roughly 12,000 people - about an hour South of Houston.   I too, was once an New ICM girl - I could be the Janice Dickson of Laura Dare models and say I was the first.....Alright, let's be honest here...I did grow up wearing our garments & nylon gowns; My mom hapen to take pictures of me pictures of me in them; but those were just childhood pictures, never featured or intended to advertised in any sort.

Flash forward 30 years and I am now taking pictures of my nieces & nephews and close friends kids to feature in our catalogs - so fun & rewarding.  I intend to keep up with this blog with many pictures of employees, garments & models.
